Avery 5160 is the standard address label: thirty labels on a US Letter sheet, three across and ten down, each one inch tall and 2⅝ inches wide. It's the sheet most office supply stores keep in stock, and the one most people mean when they say "address labels".
The labels are made for laser printers. If you have an inkjet, look for Avery 8160 instead. It's the same layout, with a face that holds inkjet ink.
What fits on a 5160 label
A 5160 label comfortably holds four lines: a name, a street address, an apartment or unit if there is one, and the city, state and ZIP. Labeltime fits each address to the label, and only shrinks the text for an unusually long line. It never cuts anything off.
Five lines will fit if the text gets a little smaller, which is fine for the occasional address with a care-of line.
Printing tips
- Print at 100%. In the print dialog, choose "Actual size" or "100%", and turn off "Fit to page" or "Shrink to fit". Scaling is the most common reason labels drift off the edges.
- Print a test page on plain paper first. Hold it over a label sheet against a window. If the outlines line up, print on the real sheet.
- Start on a used sheet. Click the first empty label on the preview and printing starts there, so a half-used sheet isn't wasted.
- Feed one sheet at a time if your printer tends to pull two at once or curl the paper.
- Keep the sheets flat and in their pack until you need them. Curled sheets jam more often.
Sheets that use the same layout
These Avery products share the 5160 layout, so a 5160 PDF prints on them too: 5260, 8160 (inkjet) and 8660 (clear, inkjet). Other brands often print "5160" on the box when they use the same layout; check that the label size and the count per sheet match.
